Feeding Tacoma Kids: A Grassroots Grocery-Bag Movement Powered by Volunteers |
A Tacoma-based volunteer👨👩👧👦 group started in 2016 after a local parent learned that many students were coming to school hungry—and that some teachers👩🏫were buying snacks themselves. Before the pandemic, volunteers focused on delivering snacks to students at high-need elementary schools. As community needs grew, the effort expanded into weekly grocery-bag distributions with kid-friendly, shelf-stable foods, organized and handed out through a Tacoma middle school site with help from volunteers and community partners. 🥪
The program runs on community generosity—financial gifts, donated food, and word-of-mouth on social media—showcasing South Sound’s “neighbors helping neighbors” spirit. 🌟 ription |
